Carlos Juiz exposes innovaTTion Spain in the R+D+i in Tourism and Business AEITs Meeting 2016

The future marketplace based on open innovation will be the first in the world dedicated to tourism so specialized and technology-based companies that support it.

The Centre for Development of Industrial Technology, under the Ministry of Economy and Competitiveness, has welcomed past Friday the R+D+i in Tourism and Business AEITs Meeting 2016 dedicated to this industry. The triple helix of Tourism-ICT drives innovaTTion Spain project of Turistec: The first exclusive marketplace for the sector, financed by the Ministry of Energy, Industry and Tourism (MINETUR). The presentation of the platform for innovation and Tourism Technologies that is developed in the Balearic Islands, sits the collaboration between the public, private and academic sector.

The event driven by Turistec and co-organized by the CDTI had the following objectives:

  • The presentation of CDTI financing instruments to develop technologies for tourism, with particular emphasis on the Eureka program and umbrella Eurekatourism+.
  • The presentation of "Innovattion Spain" Turistec project, which aims to give visibility to tourist AEIS, their activity and potential aggregate offer by all its members of the collaborative platform.

The responsible for the process of building the technology platform, the Doctor of Computer Science at the University of the Balearic Islands (UIB) Carlos Juiz, explained that open innovation is the most viable way to “get the market bet, also open, that the TIC-Tourism sector need”. Thus, Juiz has ensured that the web “will allow that ideas are offered and requested in an open, reliable and neutral marketplace, since the generation of those ideas and their selection will be on an external site to organizations and companies”.

According to the Director of Turistec, Elena Villa, “the goal of the platform is simply to create a market for Tourism innovation and Technologies through ICT itself. It should remember that, currently, there is no open innovation marketplace for tourism and industries that support it.” According to officials of international cluster-based in Baleres and the own university at the islands “it is an extraordinary opportunity to lead the collaboration and the generation of added value of ICT-Tourism companies in the environment of the digital economy.”

The Meeting, which was attended by representatives of the two ministries with responsibility for the professionals interested in the presentations addressed matters, some of its agencies, local governments, businesses, researchers from different universities, technology centers, means to Turistec “a strong impulse to the objectives of the cluster, its partners and collaborators, showing that thanks to public financing, collaboration of academia and the private sector involvement, the Triple Helix model -cooperation of Administration-Company-academic environment (University )- it is the best formula for the future of binomial ICT-Tourism”.
